Fish Migration Day

Saturday 21/04/18 is World Fish Migration day, held to celebrate the efforts that people have made to improve fish migration and riverine habitats for fish.

This year we would like to celebrate our contribution where, through collaboration with the Environment Agency and the University of Southampton, a new cost-effective fish pass prototype has been built and trialled. The success of this fish pass will allow for improvements in fish passage of both salmonids and non-salmonid species (such as Chub and Eel) over hundreds of triangular gauging weirs throughout the UK.

Back in 2017, Widdops were approached by the Environmental Agency to produce a revolutionary new cost-effective fish pass brush, developed by PhD researcher Daniella Montali-Ashworth at the University of Southampton. These unique fish pass brush pads, comprised of a staggered array of cylindrical bristle clusters, create a unique hydrodynamic environment where fish passage is still improved without compromising the hydrometric properties of the weir, as low velocity areas form downstream of the cylinders which fish can utilise to pass over weirs.

Searching through the archives weve stumbled upon this clipping from when we moved to our our current premises back in 1961.

Although the name Widdops has only been going since 1946 our parent company Bentham & Holroyd was originally established back in 1830 as William Waddingtons wool comb manufacturing.

187 years on and we're still in Bradford but a few of the staff have changed.

New forklift sweepers available this year

Following on from our customers disappointments with other low quality forklift attachment sweepers we have started developing our very own heavy duty brush sweeper.

Utilizing our diverse design and fabrication team were looking at producing a reinforced heavy duty, cost effective unit that can last the test of time whilst taking the day to day abuse of an industrial yard sweeper.

These units will use only the best heavy duty filaments to be the most hard wearing and effective brush sweeper on the market, with replacement cartridges available.

Complete units have been available to purchase since January 2017 in either 2mtr wide or 1.5mtr wide models.

New pivot function forklift brush

The newest edition to our range of heavy duty forklift brush attachments is a fully bespoke adjustable pivot unit, now available as part of our FLBcustom models

Designed in December 2017 to meet one of our customers specific requirements, this unit allows the brush to be fixed at an angle up to 15 degrees either way ideal for clearing walkways of debris and snow

We try accommodate all requests and with our in-house design team and adaptive fabrication department we can offer competitively priced bespoke units to suit the numerous applications our customers require.

Forklift Brushes to the EU

Last week we were very happy to be exporting our very first set of forklift sweeper brushes into Europe.

The metal recycling company recently contacted us wanting 3 of our heavy duty FLB23plus brush units.

At 2.3mtrs each with extended fork-sleeves and some serious weight, we had an interesting learning curve in logistics to ensure our ready assembled brushes made it to their EU destination unscathed.

Widdops have been exporting our standard brush strip and rollers across the world for some years now and are happy to quote any products to include shipping and any appropriate taxes
